Disney Prepares Substantial Construction Project at Blizzard Beach

A new permit filed with the state reveals some extensive upcoming work at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. In our screenshot of the permit below, you can see that Disney is planning on placing a large crane in a backstage area in the western corner of the park. The crane location roughly aligns with the height test balloons we spotted back in November 2021. Here’s a look at the permit, which is called the “Blizzard Beach Laydown Project”.

The application details the work that Disney is planning to do to create a laydown yard, but it does not detail what the construction is for. It’s likely that the work is to support slide part replacement of a nearby attraction. Nearby attractions include Runoff Rapids, Downhill Double Dipper, Snow Stormers, and Toboggan Racers. A less likely possibility would be the addition of a new attraction.

Here’s a look at the area of interest, courtesy of Bioreconstruct. This is earlier in the project, as the land was being cleared. A crane is in the process of being constructed over the next week or so.

Disney has not announced a reopening date for Blizzard Beach, but with work scheduled to begin soon, it’s likely that the reopening will be pushed into summer. Typhoon Lagoon is open at this time.
