James Cameron Pitched ‘Way of Water’ Flight of Passage Update to Disney CEO Bob Iger

With Avatar: The Way of Water coming out soon, creator James Cameron sat down for an interview with Variety. He was asked how the movie might tie in with the Pandora – The World of Avatar-themed land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and revealed that he has already pitched an idea to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

“When Bob Iger came back a couple weeks ago, I did send him an email and say, ‘You know, we can do Avatar 2 and 3 motifs and put them into the physical hardware of ‘Avatar Flight of Passage’. He liked that idea. So nothing has been decided. But, you know, we would like to carry that along and update it from time to time with things that flow back out of the new movies. Because I think there’s a good synergy between the physical base where you can go and just kind of meditate and be on Pandora and how the movies progress the story and bring in new imagery.”

Of course, Flight of Passage already contains some water imagery and creatures seen in The Way of Water in a sort of future-proofing move to include a water segment during the existing film. Becasue the attraction is built as a video simulator ride like Star Tours, switching out segments of film or even developing a completely new film would be easier than building a new ride from scratch or retrofitting a ride like Disney did with Frozen Ever After at EPCOT.

Disney World is taking advantage of the new film coming out by debuting a new Tree of Life projection show and offering some new food & drink at Satu’li Canteen within Pandora – The World of Avatar.

    1. Meh. Didn’t like the movie. The ride is mediocre. Yet another movie viewing experience. Bored of those.

Like the original film, the sequel is getting rave reviews with “stunning visuals”. Still looks like a cartoon to me.
