The Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM fireworks show has returned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but the popular holiday-themed show is behind the Jollywood Nights paywall as an event exclusive. We were in attendance at last night’s opening night of the Jollywood Nights event and captured video of the fireworks show in nothing less than a downpour at 12:30am. Normally I would film with a proper, stabilized camera, but this was handheld given the terrible weather conditions.
Before we get to the video, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the absolute absurdity of making this an event-exclusive show. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM debuted in 2016 and was a staple until 2020 when fireworks shows were understandably paused due to COVID-19. When fireworks shows returned in 2021, Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM didn’t return in 2021 or 2022. Instead, Disney chose to throw it behind a paywall for the Disney Jollywood Nights event. Not only has the show been paired down due to the suspension of a large fireworks launch site years ago, but the 7-year-old show is now only available to guests willing to shell out the $159+ for the holiday upcharge event. It’s likely that Hollywood Studios daily operations didn’t want to pay for the show this holiday season, so maybe the Jollywood Nights event team paying for it is the only way that anyone would ever see it again, but it’s not a good look. To be clear, the optics of this (to me) isn’t like bringing back Disney Enchantment for an After Hours event. Enchantment ran its course and Disney said it was going to end. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM sort of just went away, not acknowledged by Disney, and then brought back during an upcharge event. I view those as two different things, but back to the show.
With that out of the way, here’s the 2023 version of the show in a midnight downpour. We’ve also included earlier versions of the show including the 2017 version which was the final version to use the large fireworks launch site properly.
