DisneylandForward Public Planning Commission Meeting Scheduled for February 26th

The City of Anaheim has set a date for the next DisneylandForward Public Workshop – a Planning Commission Meeting set for February 26th at 5pm. The notice says that the meeting is “an opportunity for the community to learn about the project, including the First Amended and Restated Development Agreement, and provide comments to the Planning Commission, who will consider the project at a future public hearing.”

At the meeting, City staff will give a presentation that describes the project, proposed changes to the specific plans and zoning code, and development agreement terms. Disneyland will also provide a presentation. That will be followed by a time for questions by the Planning Commission for staff and Disney, and a time for public comments.

Here’s how the City of Anaheim describes the DisneylandForward project:

The applicant, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, U.S., Inc. (Disney), requests approval of the proposed DisneylandForward Project (Proposed Project) to allow continued, long-term growth of The Disneyland Resort. The Proposed Project would allow the transfer of uses permitted under The Disneyland Resort Project to other areas of The Disneyland Resort Specific Plan (DRSP) No. 92-1 and the Anaheim Resort Specific Plan (ARSP) No. 92-1 owned or leased by Disney or other subsidiaries of The Walt Disney Company (Disney Properties). It would also allow future streamlined review of Disney projects in these areas.

In short, the current phase of the DisneylandForward project is a rezoning effort. As part of the rezoning effort, the City of Anaheim and Disneyland will enter into a development agreement. As part of the proposed agreement, Disneyland will be required to invest a minimum of $1.9 billion over the next decade, and a minimum of $2.5 billion over the same time frame to avoid penalties.

Following the Planning Commission workshop, the schedule calls for a Planning Commission hearing in March, and two City Council hearings in April and May.
