Guests looking for a bit of movie magic to end their night at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will not be able to watch the nightly projection shows through at least June 6th. According to the Walt Disney World website, the Wonderful World of Animation show will not have performances through June 6th, inclusive. Additionally, the Disney Movie Magic projection show could possibly be retired.
Wonderful World of Animation
The Wonderful World of Animation projection show has no performances scheduled through at least June 6th, likely due to the massive stage that is blocking the projection towers. The stage is for a private buyout on June 5th, and Disney will likely require at least one day for a breakdown of the stage. The next scheduled performance of the Wonderful World of Animation show is at 10pm on June 7th.
Both the Walt Disney World website and My Disney Experience app have showtimes on June 7th, so right now it seems like you can bet on there being a show that night, pending any further showtime cancelations.
Disney Movie Magic
The real head-scratcher is the status of the Disney Movie Magic projection show. Typically performed back-to-back with the Wonderful World of Animation show, it has not only been removed from the entertainment schedule, it has been scrubbed from the Walt Disney World website and My Disney Experience app.
Typically, we see that projection shows go on a hiatus during longer summer daylight hours where it doesn’t get dark until it is too late to present the show. The biggest offender of not extending park hours enough to enjoy nighttime entertainment is Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but it’s happened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well.
However, if Disney Movie Magic was simply on hiatus, we’d expect the webpage to still present information to reflect a lack of showtimes. As of publish time, the Disney Movie Magic projection show page has been eaten by Stitch, and the show does not show up in search results on the My Disney Experience app.
Cast Members we spoke with indicated that the show may return in some form in late July, possibly even reworked or refreshed. BlogMickey.com has reached out to Walt Disney World to inquire about the status of the Disney Movie Magic projection show, but we have not received a response yet. We’ll be sure to update this article should Disney provide more details.
