Lightning Lane Multi Pass FAQ: How to Select Different Attractions for Different Members of Your Party

|

Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the new name for the former Genie+ paid skip-the-line offering. Lightning Lane Multi Pass goes into effect on July 24th at Walt Disney World, and we are putting together a series of FAQ articles to help you plan for the change and learn more about the system. For an overview of the changes, check out our earlier article. We have other articles that cover what attractions are included with the “new” service including attraction tiers, and what experiences have been removed from skip-the-line status.

In this article, we’re going to cover how you can make different attraction selections for different members of your party during the pre-arrival process.

For example, if half of your party are big Star Wars fans, and the other half are big Toy Story fans, you might want to make different Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections for different members of your party. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Star Wars fans want to ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, while the Toy Story fans want to prioritize Slinky Dog Dash.

In order to split the Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections, Disney World says that it’s a two-step process:

  1. When purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Passes for your travel party, you’ll be prompted to select up to 3 Multi Pass attractions or experiences—which must be the same for each member of your travel party at that time.
  2. After completing your purchase, you can modify the selected experiences and arrival windows for some members of your travel party, subject to availability.

While not explicitly stated by Walt Disney World, we assume that you’ll still be required to respect attraction tiers when modifying Multi Pass selections during the pre-arrival window. Going back to our example, we would initially purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass for all members of our party and we would secure Slinky Dog Dash for all members of the party during the initial purchase selection process. Slinky Dog Dash is one of the most popular Lightning Lane selections at Walt Disney World, and we don’t see that changing when Multi Pass rolls out.

By selecting Slinky Dog Dash as our initial Multi Pass attraction, we secure the “toughest” Lightning Lane at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, meaning that the modification process should produce better results than if we had started with Smugglers Run as our selection.

With Slinky Dog Dash selected (along with two other tier two selections), we can then go in and modify the Lightning Lane for Slinky Dog Dash for the members of our party who prefer to prioritize Smugglers Run. Simply modify your Slinky Dog Dash Lightning Lane and select the members of your party who wish to change to Smugglers Run. From there, complete the modification process and you’re good to go! You don’t have to change your other tier two selections, but you can if you’d like by restarting the modification process.

Because both Slinky Dog Dash and Smugglers Run are tier one attractions, the modification process should go smoothly. Where you’ll run into issues is if you try to modify a tier two attraction to a tier one attraction during the pre-arrival process. Again, tiers disappear on the day of your visit, so there might actually be some room for even further gaming optimized use of the system as we learn more, so stay tuned.
