In a statement released this evening, Walt Disney World says that they are closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Milton as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico toward the west coast of Florida. While we await further information from Disney World on any operational impacts to the theme parks, Disney has said that they are “currently operating under normal conditions and will continue to be on Tuesday, Oct. 8”. Walt Disney World says that looking ahead, they will make operational adjustments based on the latest weather forecast.

Walt Disney World Monitoring Hurricane Milton

We are closely monitoring the path of the projected storm, and the safety of our Guests and Cast Members remains our top priority. Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions and will continue to be on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Looking ahead, we are making adjustments based on the latest weather forecast and some areas with unique environments.

The latest path of Hurricane Milton has the center of the track passing right over EPCOT, so we expect that Walt Disney World will have to announce theme park closures if that doesn’t change. Walt Disney World has already announced the closure of “unique environment” areas such as Fort Wilderness, the Copper Creek cabins, and more.

As for timing, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that the most likely arrival time of tropical-storm-force winds will be on Wednesday evening, with Hurricane Milton likely moving through Central Florida in the overnight hours into Thursday. As always, the track, timing, and intensity of the storm is subject to change, and if you’re in the path, you should continue to monitor the storm.
