Ahead of the May 22nd grand opening of Universal Epic Universe, Universal has put out a blog post highlighting things that guests can enjoy in the all-new How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk land. In the post, they confirmed that guests will be able to watch in awe as dragons soar above them in the skies over the Isle of Berk. While fans have spotted flying dragon testing, this is the first time that Universal has confirmed plans of bringing flying dragons to the park after hinting at it in an initial announcement.

The dragons that rule the skies are a sight to behold as well, and you can watch in awe as they soar above while you make your way around the theme park to each of the thrilling attractions in Isle of Berk.

As Disney fans will remember, Disney rolled out a flying dragon years and years ago during a media event for the opening of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. That technology was not driven by drones, and the dragon didn’t make another public appearance.

Disney’s use of drone technology expanded when they rolled out X-Wing ships for the grand opening weekend of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Unfortunately, Disney did not continue the use of the X-Wing drones beyond the initial few days.

Now, Universal has thrown the gauntlet with ambitious plans to have dragons flying over the Isle of Berk, and the mention of them in a blog post indicates that Universal’s plans are to keep the dragons around and not only debut them as a limited-time offering.

We’ll see if they’re able to deliver starting May 22nd when Universal Epic Universe opens to the public.
