Imagineering Files Permit for Former Aunt Polly’s Quick-Service on Tom Sawyer Island

Last week, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a notice of commencement permit for the former Aunt Polly’s quick-service location on Tom Sawyer Island. The scope of the work was simply listed as “general construction”, although a full-scale demolition of Aunt Polly’s and Tom Sawyer Island as a whole is in the future.

The permit lists Phillips & Jordan, Inc. as the contractor, and the work is owned by Walt Disney Imagineering. The permit does not list demolition, but it is assumed that the scope of the work will include demolition. Phillips & Jordan, Inc. specializes in infrastructure work, and even work with water, as is the case with the nearby Rivers of America.

Aunt Polly’s opened with the rest of Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom back in 1973. As the island’s only spot to grab food and drink, it served a purpose in the early years (and decades), but it wasn’t used consistently for many years before it closed earlier this month. Here’s a look around!

As you may know, the Rivers of America will be drained, and Tom Sawyer Island will be demolished to make room for an all-new Cars-themed expansion to Frontierland called Piston Peak National Park. Work is already underway in the form of land clearing along the northern half of the Rivers of America and nearby backstage areas.
