Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Ride Testing Underway at Magic Kingdom

|

Earlier today, while visiting Magic Kingdom, we noticed that Walt Disney World had begun ride testing for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Disney was cycling the attraction every 5-10 minutes during this early phase of testing. We stopped to grab some photos and video of the ride testing as Disney targets a 2026 opening timeframe for the attraction!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Ride Testing

As you can see in our photos and video below, the early ride testing includes water-filled containers to simulate the weight of guests. The attraction is running at full speed, although dispatches are somewhat irregular and spaced far apart at the moment. This represents early ride testing following extensive push-pull testing earlier this summer.

As a reminder, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has undergone a full track replacement and rebuild. While the layout of the ride is expected to remain the same, that doesn’t mean that the replacement has been without issues. Earlier this summer, we noticed an envelope test fail, indicating that guests could, in theory, touch the rockwork. It is very likely that Walt Disney World has remedied that issue by now.

Here’s a look at the ongoing ride testing!
