A prop in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom has been updated with the name of the new fire chief of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. Here’s a closer look at prop and its significance.

Fantasyland Prop Updated for New Oversight District Fire Chief

The prop, a barrel that covers infrastructure, can be found at the exit to the Peter Pan’s Flight attraction. The barrel used to have the name of longtime fire chief Richard LePere Jr. LePere Jr. retired in Summer 2023 after serving as Fire Chief since April 2013 and as a Reedy Creek firefighter since 2000. Here’s a look back at the former version of the barrel.

In March 2024, Acting Chief Eric Ferrari was appointed Chief of the District Fire Department. Chief Ferrari oversees the entire Department of 230 personnel, including the 911 Communications Center, advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical services, fire suppression and rescue, special operations, fire prevention, and fire & life safety inspections coordinated under the Office of the Fire Marshal.

After a takeover of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and years of tension between the renamed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, it’s back to business as usual. DeSantis and Disney dropped competing lawsuits, and the Board of Supervisors saw a shakeup. Since then, the District and Disney have appeared to have a harmonious relationship.
