One of the new attractions coming to the Tropical Americas project that is flying under the radar is the woodcarver carousel. The carousel replaces the Boneyard playground area, and it will feature familiar Disney characters, carved by a local woodcarver. Recently, concrete was poured for the base of the carousel, and friend of the site Bioreconstruct captured some aerial photos of the latest progress.

Before we get to the aerial photos, here’s a little bit more context on what we’re looking at. As seen in the scale model below, the carousel is going to be in the “front left” of the land when utilizing the main entrance. For those familiar with the old layout of DinoLand USA, this is where the Boneyard playground used to sit.
The concept art below shows what the approach to the L-shaped, decagon building will look like.
At the 2024 D23 Expo, one of the ride vehicles was on display, showcasing the minute detail that we can expect to find when the carousel opens next year.
But first, it needs to be built. With the entirety of DinoLand USA now closed to guests, crews have been hard at work transforming the area as they work to create three new attractions, a newly themed quick-service area, a new playground, and a meet and greet space. Here’s a look at the area, with increasingly more zoomed-in photos of the work taking place to create a sturdy base for the carousel.
