According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, a third Monsters Inc. movie is in development at Pixar. The WSJ report briefly mentioned a new Monsters Inc. movie during an article about the future of Pixar. Here’s the latest.
Third Monsters Inc. Film in Development
While not officially announced by Disney yet, the WSJ cites sources familiar with the matter. The third Monsters Inc. film would follow the 2001 original and a 2013 prequel titled Monsters University. No other details were available about the reported new Monsters Inc. installment.
In the interest of synergy, a new Monsters Inc. film would be of interest to theme park fans, given the new land in development at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new Monsters Inc. land, called Monstropolis, was officially announced at the 2024 D23 Expo. The new land will feature an all-new suspended roller coaster, Disney’s first-ever. Other offerings will include a themed table service restaurant and an all-new theater show.
The official backstory of the land takes place after the events of the original Monsters Inc. movie, and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc.
The monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly.
Other popular franchises officially getting new installments include a third Incredibles movie, and a second Coco film. A new Coco-themed area and attraction are currently under development at Disney’s California Adventure.
