Another Frontierland Kiosk Falls: Westward Ho Now Closed

|

Another Frontierland kiosk is gone for good. The Westward Ho kiosk has permanently closed at Magic Kingdom, following the closing date Disney posted earlier this spring. We sotpped by Magic Kingdom this morning and confirmed the location is now shuttered. Two nearby carts are still serving for now.

Westward Ho Is Now Closed

Westward Ho has served its last grab-and-go snack in Frontierland. The kiosk reached the June 22nd closing date that we reported in April, and it is no longer operating.

Signs in both service windows read “Westward Ho Refreshments is currently closed,” pointing guests to the popcorn wagon for refreshments. Disney has not returned our request for comment on whether the location will return.

This closure had been telegraphed for months, but seeing the spot shut is the next big milestone for this corner of the park.

Westward Ho & The Bigger Picture

The kiosk closure ties directly to the work reshaping this stretch of Frontierland. As we reported, Disney is building a stream that will run the length of the Frontierland boardwalk, separating the existing area from the upcoming Piston Peak National Park.

When the boardwalk closes for that work, the walking space in Frontierland tightens. The first section of that boardwalk closed to guests in early June. The north side of the main Frontierland walkway gets blocked by these kiosks whenever parades and cavalcades use the roadway, and without the boardwalk as a bypass, Disney needs the kiosks gone to keep guests moving. Westward Ho sat right in that pinch point.

What’s Still Open Nearby

Not everything in this pocket of Frontierland has closed up shop…yet. The churro and popcorn carts remain open for now, so you can still grab a quick snack in the area. The closed kiosk’s signage even points guests to that popcorn wagon.

I would not count on these carts sticking around much longer. That said, Cast Members tell us that there are plans to relocate the popcorn and churros a little further up the street toward Liberty Square.

The Story So Far

What We Still Don’t Know

The open question is whether any of these kiosks come back once the boardwalk work wraps. We reached out to Disney for comment on Westward Ho’s return and have not heard back. The long-term plan for the boardwalk itself, full rebuild or refresh, is also still unconfirmed.
