VIDEO: Carousel of Progress Removed from Tomorrowland PeopleMover Narration

Disney has quietly updated the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover narration. The updated narration aligns with an overnight change in Tomorrowland. With the Carousel of Progress now closed for its multi-year reimagining, the PeopleMover’s onboard spiel no longer mentions it. Nothing new has been recorded to fill the gap. Here’s what we heard on our latest lap around Tomorrowland.

  • The old spiel leaned hard on the Carousel’s “great big beautiful tomorrow” theme

The PeopleMover spends its time weaving through and above several Tomorrowland attractions, narrating as you glide past. The Carousel of Progress was one of those mentions on the audio track, cued as the vehicles rounded along the theater’s show building.

That segment is now gone. On our ride this morning, the narration moved past the Carousel building without acknowledging it at all. No new narration has been recorded to fill the gap. Here’s a video from aboard the Tomorrowland PeopleMover, and from in front of the closed Carousel of Progress attraction.

What the Narration Used to Say

For readers who never caught it or want the comparison, here is the transcript of the segment as it played before the change:

We’re now approaching Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress. Inside this rotating theater, four families welcome you into their home of yesterday and today, starting way back at the turn of the 20th century. First presented at the New York World’s Fair, this legendary circular theater celebrates the progress that has made our better. It’s a perfect reminder that there’s always a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day.

Just like progress, we keep moving ahead, and so does the Carousel. Like progress itself, this theater never stops, inspiring new generations to dream of a great big beautiful tomorrow.

Of course, you can’t have narration saying that the Carousel of Progress never stops given that it is now stopped and it will remain closed into 2027.

What Replaces It: Nothing, For Now

There is no new narration in the Carousel’s old slot on the PeopleMover journey. The vehicles pass along the show building, and the audio track is blank. In the past, we’ve seen Disney record new audio for closed attractions. The most recent example of that was narration on the Walt Disney World Railroad when Big Thunder Mountain Railroad had closed.

It’ll be interesting to see if the narration is changed over the next year or if it returns as previously recorded.
