While visiting Magic Kingdom recently, we noticed an adjustment to the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade. The adjustments, due to high heat, move the fully costumed “fur” characters to the floats while “face” characters walk the route on foot. It’s a shift we’ve seen before when the temperatures start to climb. Here’s a look at the changes that you may see when visiting Magic Kingdom this Summer.

What Changed in the Cavalcade
During our recent visit to Magic Kingdom, we noticed that the fully costumed characters that would typically walk the route were instead positioned on the floats. Genie, Stitch, Marie, Timon, Baloo, and others rode atop the cavalcade floats.
“Face” characters, whose costumes likely allow for greater airflow to the performer, took to walking the route in their place. That group included Merida, Pocahontas, Moana, Raya, Elena of Avalor, Bert, and more.
The change was likely made for performer safety during the hottest months of the year. While I’m not sure of the exact criteria for when this version of the cavalcade is presented versus the normal version, it’s possible that you may see either version, or both, during your visit.

A Familiar Adjustment
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this operational shift. Last August, Walt Disney World made a similar change to parade operations, moving fur characters to the floats for performer safety during a period of extreme heat. While the cavalcade may be adjusted during your visit this Summer, know that you’ll likely continue to see the same characters, just in different spots than normal.
The Story So Far
The Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade has evolved steadily since its debut. It remains the only “COVID-era” cavalcade at the Walt Disney World theme parks. Here’s a look back at some of its milestones:
- The cavalcade debuted in February 2022 as part of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration, billed as the largest-ever cavalcade and bringing a number of rarely-seen characters to the parade route.
- That same month, Toy Story characters debuted a new look in the cavalcade.
- In June 2022, Mirabel from Encanto debuted in the cavalcade.
- In November 2022, Raya from Raya and the Last Dragon joined the lineup.
- In September 2023, Bruno from Encanto debuted in the cavalcade.
