Joe Schott Takes Over Walt Disney World President Role in Early August

Joe Schott will become President of Walt Disney World Resort effective August 3rd, 2026, according to his updated leadership profile on the Disney Experiences site. The date is firm timing on a transition Disney had previously described only as happening by the end of July. Schott succeeds Jeff Vahle, who is retiring after a 36-year career with the company.

Joe Schott Takes Over Walt Disney World August 3rd

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • Joe Schott’s Disney Experiences bio now lists an effective date of August 3rd, 2026.
  • The date is slightly later than the “end of July” timeline Disney gave in May.

Schott’s leadership profile on the Disney Experiences site lists his title as President, Walt Disney World Resort, effective August 3rd, 2026. When Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum announced the appointment on May 18th, 2026, the company said only that the incoming leaders would assume their new roles by the end of July. The updated bio moves Schott’s start into the first week of August. Walt Disney World has not returned a request for comment about the change. We assume that Jeff Vahle will remain in his role until August 2nd, but the latest statement is that he will be in the president role through “late July”.

The Role Schott Steps Into

Vahle had led Walt Disney World since 2020. His retirement opened the position Schott now fills.

A 40-Year Loop Back to Where He Started

Schott is a more than 40-year Disney veteran who grew up in Orlando, and the new role brings him back to where his career began. He started at Walt Disney World in operations as a Jungle Cruise skipper.

Schott arrives from Disney Signature Experiences, where he oversaw a portfolio that included Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club, Aulani, Adventures by Disney, and more. During his time there, Disney Cruise Line launched the Disney Destiny and the Disney Adventure, the brand’s first entry into the Asian market. His bio frames the Walt Disney World job around the scale of what’s currently underway at the resort, with new lands and attractions in development at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

His career has run through several of Disney’s global resorts. He served as President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, worked as Chief Operating Officer during the revitalization of the Disneyland Paris parks and hotels, and supported Tokyo Disney Resort through Walt Disney Attractions Japan.
