New Hat Option Debuts for Walt Disney World VIP Tour Guides

VIP Tour Guides at Walt Disney World now have the option to wear a hat as part of their costume. We spotted a VIP Tour Guide wearing the new look during a recent visit to Magic Kingdom. The hat provides guides some welcome shade during long days in the Florida sun. Here’s more.

VIP Tour Guides Get a New Hat Costume Option

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • VIP Tour Guides now have the option to wear a hat with their costume
  • The hat matches the existing costume’s tartan pattern

This new hat features a navy crown with a tartan plaid brim. That brim matches the iconic tartan trim already found on the shoulders of the VIP Tour Guide costume. It pairs with the guide’s existing white button-up shirt, VIP Tour Guide pin, and name badge. The design of the hat ties the look together nicely for long, hot days in the unforgiving Central Florida sun.

Wearing the hat is optional, so guests will likely see some VIP Tour Guides with it and others without. Given how much time VIP Tour Guides spend outside, the option is likely a welcome one. Many Cast Members work in a single area at a time, sometimes under an umbrella or indoors. VIP Tour Guides go wherever their guests go instead. That means a full day of sun exposure across whichever parks the tour visits.

Other Cast Member positions that face high sun exposure, such as PhotoPass or parking lot positions, have had a hat option. Offering a hat option to VIP Tour Guides is likely overdue, but it will certainly be a welcome change for Guides working throughout the hot Summers (and hot Springs and hot Falls).

Disney has rolled out a wave of Cast Member costume updates in recent years. Many of the changes lean into lighter, more breathable materials suited to the Florida heat. A hat option for VIP Tour Guides fits that same pattern. It gives guides a practical way to stay a little cooler while spending hours outdoors with their groups.

Our thanks to VIP Tour Guide Homer for a very quick chat and posing for the photo while his group had stopped for a break.
