Good afternoon from day one of the D23 Expo, where there is A LOT to see and do, including the largest-ever Walt Disney Imagineering pavilion. We’ll have tons of content over the coming days, but there is some new news as it relates to the Piston Peak National Park off-road rally race. There is new concept art and a first look at a full-scale model of the ride vehicle. Here’s a closer look!
Full-Scale Ride Vehicle Model for Piston Peak Rally Race
We’ll start with a look at the new concept art, showing various vistas along the rally race ride route. These first few pieces of art are on display in the Walt Disney Imagineering pavilion, available for all D23 attendees to see.
Then, during the panel presentation at Center Stage within the Imagineering pavilion, additional concept art was shared, showing a scene within the ride where Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater appear. This appears to be an updated version of previously shared concept art that showed the Cars duo near the finish line.
Beyond the new concept art, panelists also showed off a first look at the full-scale foam model of the ride vehicle. During the panel, stats were given for the ride vehicle, which includes:
- 82″ maximum height
- 74″ wide
- 96″ wheel base
- 32″ wheels
- Six seats
- No windows, and no doors
The full-scale foam model, seen below, shows how big the vehicles will be. Imagineer Jason Grandt could be seen sitting within the vehicle. This is the final step of the process before the vehicles go into production.
