New “Open House” Banner Installed at The Magic of Disney Animation in Hollywood Studios

Imagineering has installed a new banner reading “Open House” at the entrance to The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It hangs beneath the Walt Disney Animation Studios lettering, stretched between a lineup of character statues. The lineup includes Mickey Mouse, the Mad Hatter, Flounder, Tinker Bell, Moana, Minnie Mouse, and Robin Williams’ Lost Boy. Several of the characters hold props like a paintbrush and a paint can, staged as though they had just finished hanging the sign themselves.

New Signage Reinforces the “Open House” Concept

The signage look ties directly into the framing Imagineering has used for this space from the beginning. As we reported after our hard hat tour of the attraction, the area just past the Sorcerer Mickey hat is called The Magic of Disney Animation. It’s themed to suggest that the animators who normally work there have stepped away. Their characters have taken over, throwing open the doors to welcome guests in.

The new banner puts that same idea front and center. Guests will find it in the courtyard, right before entering the interior space.

A Closer Look at the Plaza Taking Shape

Stepping back from the sign reveals more of the space still coming together around it. A curved green planter wall borders a reddish-tan paved plaza directly in front of the display. Young trees nearby are still held upright by staked support wires, and “Wet Paint” signage posted along the planter wall suggests finishing touches are still underway.

The layout gives an early sense of how the area has changed, and how it remains the same as it was before the transformation. Beyond the theming, the biggest change is that there is no change in elevation here. Previously, there was a sunken area in front of the semi-circle planter.

The Magic of Disney Animation Inspiration

The attraction draws its inspiration from the award-winning Once Upon a Studio short, blending classic Disney characters with newer ones. Imagineering singled out Robin Williams’ Lost Boy character as a figure who “adds the magic” to the experience.

The Magic of Disney Animation opens September 14th inside the reimagined Walt Disney Studios Lot courtyard. We’ll continue to bring you updates as more details and photos of the space emerge.
