We got an early look inside The Magic of Disney Animation during a media preview on September 9th, ahead of the attraction’s September 14th opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Dozens of props and unique items fill the new Animator’s Office, and one of them doubles as a hidden nod to the room’s Star Wars past. Where to Find the Launch Bay Easter Egg
The Animator’s Office is a spot that I could spend an hour at, combing over details that Imagineers filled the room with. The office feels lived in by the animator who just stepped out, but also alive thanks to characters found throughout the room. Stitch spins around in a desk chair, Mushu is playing an arcade game, Pascal is making a bit of a mess, and Hei-Hei even makes a surprise appearance. Movie posters for Lilo & Stitch and Back to Neverland hang on the wall behind the desk in a very busy room. For guests willing to spend some extra time to look around, there’s even a Star Wars Launch Bay Easter Egg.
The only hint that I’ll give you is that it can be found on the animator’s desk. The rest of this article will detail exactly where to find it. The Easter Egg we’re looking for is a speeder bike toy. It sits on a shelf on the desk. It’s mostly hidden behind a Sorcerer Mickey figure from Fantasia. Look past the Mickey statue. The toy speeder bike comes into view among a cluster of die-cast motorcycles and other memorabilia crowding the same shelf.
Why The Speeder Bike
It’s easy to miss, but its placement isn’t random. This exact room previously housed a screen-used speeder bike prop from Return of the Jedi, back when the building operated as Star Wars Launch Bay. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Arts loaned that prop to Disney. It sat displayed against a forest backdrop with accompanying concept art. We have previously reported that the new animator’s desk sits roughly where that display once stood.
Star Wars Launch Bay closed permanently on September 25th, 2025, after nearly a decade in Animation Courtyard. This building’s history stretches back even further. The first version of The Magic of Disney Animation occupied the same space until it closed in July 2015. Star Wars Launch Bay took over a few months later. The new Magic of Disney Animation, opening September 14th, brings the space back to its original theme.
