Walt Disney World had scheduled the remarks for 8:50am at Cinderella Castle. Schott opened with a good morning and said it was exciting to be there on a special day, then noted that Walt Disney World first welcomed guests 55 years ago today, around the same time.
He described that first day as a much smaller operation, with two hotels and a campground alongside Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney World now has four theme parks, and Schott said there is more magic here than anywhere else on earth.
Schott Recalls His Jungle Cruise Start and Thanks Guests
Schott said Disney means so much to everyone there, and that his first job with the company was at the Jungle Cruise, just down the Adventureland path. He then slipped into a skipper spiel and got a bit of a chuckle, telling the crowd to lower their heads, watch their step, and enjoy the rest of their day.
As we reported when he took over the role, Schott became Walt Disney World president on August 3rd, and his career began as a part-time skipper nearly 45 years ago. Before returning to Florida, he led Disney Signature Experiences and Shanghai Disney Resort.
Schott thanked guests for making Walt Disney World part of their lives. He said Disney is honored to have them as part of its story. Then he welcomed some Magic Kingdom friends to the stage to celebrate with everyone.
Additionally, Scott shared a message in the My Disney Experience app, seen below.
