New Solar Facility to Generate Power for Two Walt Disney World Theme Parks

Disney has just announced that the new solar facility they’re constructing in a partnership with Origis Energy USA will generate enough energy to power two theme parks. The massive 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility will be online by the end of the year. The facility will be located near Disney’s Animal Kingdom and construction is set to begin in the coming months. Here’s an infographic showing the potential of the new facility.

Readers of the site may remember when we showed off the 5-megawatt “Hidden Mickey” solar facility near Epcot. The new facility will combine with the “Hidden Mickey” facility to produce up to 25 percent of the needs of the entire Walt Disney World Resort during the sun’s peak hours.

This new solar facility will help Disney deliver on its initiative to reduce net greenhouse gases for the resort by 2020 when compared to 2012 numbers. With Earth Day around the corner, the timing of the news couldn’t have been better!
