PHOTOS – A look at the current state of Innoventions

Innoventions is currently a ghost town. Sure, Disney tried to breathe some life into it with the addition of Colortopia in November 2015, but with the shuttering of StormStruck and Sum of All Thrills this September, there isn’t a lot to grab guests attention. Today we wanted to capture a few photos as a snapshot of the current state of Innoventions.

Starting with Innoventions East, we see that the entrance closest to StormStruck has been closed and the exterior signage removed. A small sign attempts to direct guests to the rear, or Future World side, of the building.

You can either walk through the breezeway to the only entrance with a proper sign (second photo) or enter through a side entrance near Electric Umbrella (below).

We chose the side entrance, where we found little informative signs letting us know that Innoventions closes before the rest of the park.

Innoventions East houses Colortopia and an educational area where you can learn about atoms. Here’s Disney’s official description of the pavilion:

Entertain your curiosities about science and technology inside a vibrant pavilion featuring fun activities and exhibits.

Walking past Colortopia, we see Vision House on the right. It’s been closed for some time now, but was recently used as a distribution point for Annual Passholder glass cups as part of the Food and Wine Festival. Behind the walls sits an untouched Sum of All Thrills.

Making our way over to Innoventions West, we see there is no permanent signage for Innoventions.

Innoventions West is basically just a Meet and Greet area for Baymax and Inside Out’s Joy and Sadness.

The Innoventions West entrance near Spaceship Earth has been closed as well as the entrance near Soarin. The only way to get to the Meet and Greets is via the breezeway (pictured above).

As you can see, Innoventions seems to be yet another neglected section of Future World in Epcot. There is some hope though. At this year’s D23 fan event, the chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts, Bob Chapek, confirmed that Epcot will be receiving an overhaul in the coming years. Rumors have hinted at an expansive Innoventions project. Chapek stated that the overhaul will ensure that Epcot remains true to its original values and that he instructed Imagineers to “dream big”. Hopefully that means that we’ll be able to bring you photos of a changing and improving Epcot in the near future!
