Sleeping Beauty Castle in Hong Kong Disneyland is undergoing a multi-year transformation that has seen the park’s centerpiece under refurbishment since January 2018. When we visited the park back in September 2018, work had not progressed to any additions to the castle yet.
Fast forward a year to today and some absolutely wonderful photos from Hong Kong Main Street Gazette reveal that a lot of work has taken place to transform the castle into the newly renamed Castle of Magical Dreams. Before we jump into the photos, here’s a look at the concept art released for the newly reimagined castle.
The castle is essentially an amalgamation of various styles representing 13 different Disney princesses. Each of these thematic architectural elements are inspired by the stories of much-loved Disney Princesses — Tiana, Aurora, Ariel, Mulan, Jasmine, Snow White, Moana, Cinderella, Merida, Pocahontas, Belle, Rapunzel — along with Anna and Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen” — will all have their moment to shine in sequence throughout this summer. With special attention to the iconic patterns, textures, colors and ornamentation, guests will be able to recognize the individual elements inspired by their favorite Disney heroines, celebrating a sense of diversity, inclusion and unity.
Ok, let’s jump into the photos from Hong Kong Main Street Gazette!
Here are some photos from a bit earlier in the construction.
Our thanks once again to Hong Kong Main Street Gazette for allowing us to use their wonderful photos and for keeping such a close eye on the latest news from Hong Kong Disneyland!
