We have an update and some clarification on how the Backup Boarding Groups will work for Rise of the Resistance. Originally explained to us by Cast Members as something that would open up later in the day, it turns out that Disney is just going to call boarding groups over a certain number the Backup Boarding Groups.
As seen in the screenshot below of the My Disney Experience app, any group above group 121 will only be called if capacity allows for it. Thanks to @ThePowellFamily for letting us know that backup boarding groups were filled before 8am this morning. It still remains paramount that you show up early if you want a chance to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
