Apple Pay, Gift Card Redemption, and Arrival Windows Added to Mobile Order in Latest My Disney Experience Update

The latest My Disney Experience update features some changes that were likely put in place as part of Disney’s effort to encourage social distancing when the Walt Disney World theme parks reopen on July 11th.

Arrival Windows

First, Disney has added arrival windows. This not only helps keep the food fresh and ready for you when you arrive, it also helps Disney better estimate how many guests will be in a dining location at a given time. This will be critical in allowing for social distancing (and maybe even quick service restaurant capacity) when the theme parks reopen.

As you can see in the screenshot below, D-Luxe Burger now asks for an arrival window when placing your order. If you click on “More Times”, you are presented with 30-minute windows until the location closes. The concept of an arrival window isn’t necessarily new to Disney parks fans though, as the Disneyland Resort Mobile Order system uses it already. That said, it is a new feature for Walt Disney World and the My Disney Experience app.

Apple Pay and More New Payment Methods

Also new to this update is the inclusion of new payment methods to make paying easier. Here are the new payment methods that we noticed:

  • Apple Pay
  • Disney Gift Card
  • Disney Rewards Redemption Card

This is part of Disney’s plan to make cashless payments easier than ever to use at the theme parks. We’ve seen the encouragement of cashless payments at World of Disney and expect cashless payments to be expanded at every transaction point possible.

In the app, Disney encourages the use of Apple Pay first, as seen below.

If guests click “Continue to Checkout”, they will be given the option to use some of the new payment options such as a Disney Gift Card. Of course, guests will be able to use a Credit or Debit Card on file as well.

The latest version of My Disney Experience is version 5.14, and is now available on the Apple App Store.
