Character Dining Cancelled at Walt Disney World

As Disney continues to update guests, we’re learning more about specific experiences that guests have booked that will no longer be offered once Walt Disney World officially reopens on July 11th.

One such experience is character dining. According to emails sent out to guests, Disney has stated that “certain experiences such as Character dining cannot be provided”. The cancellation of Character dining offerings doesn’t really come as a shock though, as Character meet and greets won’t be offered when the parks reopen either. It’s unclear if dining locations that use to offer Character dining might offer something else in the interim.

Disney has had to make the tough decision to cancel most of its entertainment offerings including fireworks, parades, character meet and greets, and more. Disney is working on a solution to still have its characters in the theme parks, just at a distance where guests can’t meet them. Most recently, we’ve seen the testing of that idea with socially distanced Stormtroopers at Disney Springs.

We’ll continue to bring you news and photos, where possible, through the Disney Parks closure due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) and will resume our normal coverage once the parks reopen to guests on July 11th!

    1. The character M&G on board the ships is a HUGE part of the cruise. It will be interesting to see how that is dealt with once the ships are back, which could be the fall or even next year.

    2. Glad by trip was cancelled altogether. Not even worth going. I bet the ticket prices are still exactly the same. Guess that is all a part of the plan to keep numbers down. COVID-19 is not their fault, but the entertainment value that Disney fans have come to expect will just not be there. Diminished dining options, no character meet and greets, and all the complications masks entail, making photos not worth buying, and causing many of us who have, over the years, come to depend on lip reading for comprehension. We put off 6 months. Perhaps some sanity may come back to the world by then.
