At this morning’s Orange County Task Force meeting, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney World Resorts and Transportation Operations Thomas Mazloum stressed that reservation availability doesn’t necessarily mean that Disney will open on a certain date.

Just like we saw with his statement on June reservation dates, Mazloum stressed that Disney moving to a July 1st reservation opening window doesn’t mean that they’ll be open in July. Mazloum said that Disney will be following the direction of government and health officials as well as keeping an eye on the data to determine when Walt Disney World will reopen to guests. We already know that Disney will limit capacity and likely require guests to wear face masks when it reopens its gates, it’s just a matter of when they’ll reopen at this point.

Mazloum talked briefly about the recent Shanghai Disneyland reopening and said that Disney has seen some encouraging signs in the two days of operation so far and that reopening Shanghai Disneyland represented a baby step in their overall plan to get all of the Disney theme parks open around the world.

Also on the call, Florida Department of Health in Orange County Dr. Raul Pino talked about the possibility of a resurgence of COVID-19 as the local economy begins to reopen. Dr. Pino said that he expects to see a small uptick before the theme parks reopen, but that Orange County and the state of Florida could see a large uptick in cases once the parks reopen.
