According to a social media post, Local 50 a Disneyland food and beverage union, has said that Disney has requested over 2,800 layoffs across various positions. This number is higher than the 2,500 layoffs the union initially estimated.
Local 50 represents 7,796 Cast Members, so Disney will be laying off over 36% of the Local 50 workforce. Local 50 noted the separation date for Cast Members affected will be December 31, 2020.
Here’s what we know about the positions:
- Full-time positions: 436
- Part-time positions: 2,361
- Seasonal positions: 61
The largest chunk of jobs in the full-time category came from table-service restaurant positions, while the biggest part-time losses where from quick-service locations. The largest single job position losses were recorded as 561 part-time positions for quick-service cashier.
Included in the overall tallies listed above, over 43 positions were cut from Club 33 operations, which is a private club at Disneyland and Disney World that costs tens of thousands of dollars to join and thousands of dollars a year in annual dues.
