Governor Newsom to Postpone Release of Theme Park Guidelines After Complaints from Disneyland, Others

According to LA Times reporter Phil Wilson, California Governor Gavin Newsom will postpone the release of theme park guidelines. As a reminder, state officials said that the guidelines would finally be released this week following weeks of statements from Newsom that said the guidelines were coming “soon”.

After reading a draft proposal of the guidelines, Disneyland and other theme park operators asked the Governor to delay the release of the guidelines. The guidelines were said to be too restrictive and not made in collaboration with the theme parks. Now, it appears they will get their wish and the guidelines won’t be released today.

Dr. Mark Ghaly, California’s health director, said the following, “Given the size and operational complexities of these unique sectors, we are seeking additional input from health, workforce and business stakeholders to finalize this important framework — all leading with science and safety”.

According to communications from unions that were obtained by BlogMickey.com, California was preparing to introduce guidelines that would not only be geographically restricting, but could also delay theme parks from opening until some of the final tiers of California’s reopening plan. It’s possible that not only would the theme parks need to wait weeks or longer to reopen, but that they will not be the economic magnet that they once were due to geographical restrictions in the guidelines.
