While visiting EPCOT today, we decided to drop in and ride the Gran Fiesta Tour. As you might know, Donald Duck is missing. Yes, yes, we know that Donald Duck being missing is the entire storyline of the attraction, but he’s quite literally missing from the finale scene.

Back in early January, we noticed that the Donald Duck animatronic in the finale scene was being propped up. The next day, he was missing entirely and a memorial was installed in his place. Disney has since removed the memorial, but has not replaced Donald Duck. Here’s a look at the current finale with a missing Donald Duck animatronic.

Cast Members did not know when he might return after initially being told it would only be a two week fix.

The animatronics are old, having been reused from the Mickey Mouse Revue attraction that debuted in Magic Kingdom back in 1971. The audio-animatronics then made their way to Tokyo Disneyland to perform in a show of the same name before returning back to EPCOT in 2015.

Since 2015, two of the three animatronics have failed and needed to be taken backstage for repairs. In July 2020, the Jose Carioca animatronic broke down and needed to be removed from the stage.

Jose would later return.

Now, it’s Donald’s turn.

Again, Cast Members are not sure when Donald will return, but did say that this fix is proving to be difficult. With figures that are nearly 50 years old, we can only imagine the difficulties that might arise.
