Gran Fiesta Tour Closed & Drained for Refurbishment at EPCOT

The Gran Fiesta Tour is now closed at EPCOT for a 2-month refurbishment, scheduled to reopen on March 15th. The attraction is expected to receive a refresh during the downtime, but it’s unlikely that there will be any significant changes. We made it out to EPCOT today to take a look at the ride, which is now drained to allow crews easier access to the show scenes.

Gran Fiesta Tour Closed for Refurbishment

The Gran Fiesta Tour is a slow-moving boat ride that takes guests through various Mexican locales and celebrations as we search for Donald Duck. The ride takes place in the Mexico Pavilion pyramid, and while it’s one of the lowest wait times at EPCOT, it’s a fun little ride.

As you can see in the photo below, the ride signage in front of the pyramid has been covered with a tarp.

There is no signage outside the pyramid informing guests of the closure, but there is a refurbishment sign once you get inside the pyramid noting that the Gran Fiesta Tour is “not operating at this time”.

At the entrance to the attraction, Cast Members have games for guests to enjoy such as hopscotch, connect four, and ring toss. The Cast Members are also there to talk with guests and answer any questions they may have.

Somewhat interestingly, there are no construction walls at the entrance to the ride. Instead, planters are in place.

The nearby San Angel Inn Restaurante is still operating as normal, and guests can see into the attraction. The show lighting is still on for the pyramid, which enhances the mood of the entire interior of the Pavilion.

As we can see, the attraction has been drained (but isn’t completely dry). This will allow crews easier access to the show scenes, and allow for a deep clean. It looks like work lighting is on in the interior of the attraction as evidenced by the bright white lighting seen in the tunnel on the right side of the photos below.

Just like the entrance to the attraction, there are planters installed at the exit to the ride too.
