Tribal Dancers Removed from Jungle Cruise as Reimagining Project Continues at Magic Kingdom

As Disney continues to work on removing negative cultural depictions from the Jungle Cruise attraction at Magic Kingdom, they have removed the tribal dancers from a section of the ride where guests get to experience “natives”.

First, here’s a look back at the scene as it sat up until recently.

Here’s a look at the scene on our ride through the attraction earlier today.

Nearby, the drummers are still in place, but will be removed shortly. Two of the six headhunters that ambush guests have been removed as well.

  1. There are many tribal cultures with dancers and drummers in jungles and elsewhere around the world. Their garb and body mods can seem outlandish, even scary to Western eyes, but that’s our problem, not theirs. It’s just their culture, developed over millennia. Why is this “negative”? It’s a jungle; the inhabitants don’t wander around in Brooks Brothers suits.
