It might not be a direct callback to the infamous time that a Jungle Cruise boat sank at Magic Kingdom, but it’s hard to look at the ride’s newest prop installation and not think back to early 2020 (believe it or not) and an incident that quickly went viral after we broke the news that a Jungle Cruise boat sank.

While the joke of hippos sinking a skippers boat have been in place long before the incident, there are now visual props to build upon the joke. As guests round the corner from the downed plane and enter the hippo pool, a new mostly-sunken Jungle Cruise boat is on the left side of the river. Here’s a look at the boat, as well as some strategic props that belong to the newly installed characters that guests see earlier in the attraction.

This scene is new and different from previously released concept art that shows the downed Kwango Kate. Perhaps this is one half of the boat and the second half of the boat will be found further down the river. Here’s a look at concept art for the other half of the boat.
