According to data just released by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, Orlando International Airport (MCO) beat 2021 Fourth of July travel expectations. As a matter of fact, 7 of the 13 holiday travel days even beat pre-pandemic numbers. Overall, travel was down about 8% compared to pre-pandemic levels, but the holiday period was strong enough for MCO to declare that “Summer travel is back”.
Adding to a few traveler speedbumps during the holiday period were some airlines reporting
staffing shortages which impacted flights into and out of MCO and Hurricane/Tropical Storm Elsa, which forced the combined cancellation of nearly 100 flights over several days. Other than that, data was strong and MCO says that optimism is high for continued travel throughout the summer. Here’s a look at Fourth of July travel figures:
