Just a day before a planned employee walkout, Disney CEO Bob Chapek called what the Wall Street Journal is describing as a “hastily planned virtual town hall” in an effort to lower the temperature after a fumbled response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
The town hall, which wrapped up earlier this afternoon, saw a renewed effort by Chapek to turn a PR negative into a positive. Chapek said that he is committed to “use this moment as a catalyst for more meaningful and lasting change”. Chapek said that he now understands the pain that his silence caused for many in the Company.
Disney has said that they are creating a company-wide task force to develop action plans to make more LGBT-aware content and Disney Parks marketing SVP Lisa Becket is one of the execs tapped to oversee the task force.
Tomorrow, an unknown number of Disney employees will partake in a walkout designed to showcase their frustration with the Company’s response to the “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida.
