Disney World Implements Disney Park Pass Changes

As we first told you yesterday, Disney World was set to introduce changes to the Disney Park Pass system that is meant to streamline the system for all guests. Today, those changes went into effect.

Previously, there were essentially two systems. Actually, if we go back to the start of the Disney Park Pass system in Summer 2020, there was one system in use back then for Annual Passholders and ticketed guests. Then, Disney updated the Disney Park Pass system when they rolled out new Annual Pass sales in September 2021.

Since September 2021, Annual Passholders and ticketed guests have operated with two different Park Pass systems. Ticketed guests remained on the antiquated system which had a multitude of issues, but most notably didn’t allow the modification of Disney Park Pass reservations. Should ticketed guests have previously wanted to change their reservation, they would first have to cancel a reservation on the books and then go through the process of making a new reservation from scratch. Annual Passholders were able to modify Disney Park Pass reservations with the system upgrades in September 2021.

Then, in June 2022, Disney made a slight adjustment to the Disney Park Pass UI. While the look and feel of the system changed slightly, two things happened behind the scenes that made the most recent change interesting. First, Disney began displaying the last four numbers of your ticket ID next to your name. We’ll get to that in a bit. Second, they build in the ability to change the time in which a Disney Park Pass begins. That backend change, along with other factors, led us to write a rumor that the Disney Park Pass system would allow for “Afternoon Entries”. For more on that rumor, check out our article below.

While Disney did not introduce Afternoon Entries in this latest Park Pass update, it’s possible that they’re still exploring the idea.

Ok, back to the last four numbers update from June. One other significant change to the Disney Park Pass system is that your Park Pass is now tied to a ticket, not to your person. For many guests, there will be no change because they are visiting with either a single multi-day ticket or with an Annual Pass. However, for guests who previously held both a regular ticket and an Annual Pass (or multiple sets of regular tickets), Disney IT used to have to set up a ghost profile to separate Park Pass reservations across multiple tickets because reservations were previously tied to a person. It was a complicated and many times frustrating process, but what matters now is that it has been addressed.

In addition to the ability to modify reservations and a fix for the ghost profile problem, the Park Pass system now also allows for guests to book Park Pass reservations for multiple ticket types in a single transaction. Guests can also book Park Passes for large groups of up to 30 guests (previous limit was 12).

Guests may also change the email associated with a Disney Park Pass reservation. This means that guests can choose a different email than what is standard for their My Disney Experience account. Changing an email address associated with a single Park Pass reservation does not change the email associated with their My Disney Experience as a whole.

Guests must still make Disney Park Pass reservations via the Disney World website. Disney is not introducing the ability to make or modify Disney Park Pass reservations within the My Disney Experience app.
