New Walkway Opens Between Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian

A new walkway has opened between Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. The new walkway replaces an existing walkway that is now behind construction walls as part of ongoing work to build a new Disney Vacation Club tower on the west side of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Here’s a look at concept art for the new DVC tower.

The new walkway takes guests along Floridian Way and towards the Grand Floridian DVC parking lot instead of a more direct route along the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Wedding Pavilion.

Polynesian Village has updated resort maps to reflect the change.

Even the running trail has been updated to remove the walkway to Grand Floridian from the route.

The new walkway is a little less than 1/2 mile and took us about 9 minutes to walk between the Wedding Pavilion and the Fiji building at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Let’s take a walk! We’ll start near the Fiji and Aotearoa buildings, which is where the first of many signs direct guest to the new path.

This split in the walkway takes guests to Disney’s Grand Floridian to the right, and Shades of Green to the left.

The highlight of the walk is the occasional monorail passing overhead.

The rest of the walk is rather bland.

Guests will have to share the walkway with utility golf carts, and likely large construction vehicles as this gate serves as the main entrance to the construction site from the roadway.

Here’s the first crossing over Floridian Way as you make your way to the west side of the road. There are no signals and cars traveling along this road aren’t used to as much pedestrian traffic as there is now, so we urge extreme caution.

Continuing along the walkway, we get a closer look at the ongoing upgrades to Disney’s Magnolia Course upgrades. The course is being modified for a Floridian Way/World Drive project that will end up taking years and we might even have further walkway impacts depending on how long the DVC project is.

Time to cross Floridian Way again as we enter Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort property at the Wedding Pavilion gate.

Now that we’re on Grand Floridian Resort property, let’s start at the Wedding Pavilion and check out the walk through the parking lot to the Wedding Pavilion entrance seen above.

Cast Members did not know how long this walkway would be in use, but it’s likely that a new pathway will be constructed along the Seven Seas Lagoon for the DVC project.

In addition to the new walkway, the digital map has been updated to reflect the removal of the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at Luau Cove. Here’s a before/after.

Finally, here’s a look at our mapped walk along the new pathway.
