Report: Reedy Creek Improvement District May Not Be Dismantled After All, Insignificant Modifications Likely

A new report from the Financial Times claims that Florida lawmakers are working to create a compromise that largely neuters the planned dismantling of the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The appetite for a compromise that enacts a few insignificant changes comes after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis won his reelection bid and former CEO Bob Chapek was fired.

With Bob Iger back at the helm, lawmakers are reportedly working to create a piece of legislation that makes small changes to Reedy Creek such as removing Disney’s ability to create a nuclear power plant or build an airport – both items that are not under consideration by Disney and likely never would be.

Before his reelection, DeSantis talked tough, claiming that he would make Disney pay for a nearly $1 billion debt that they don’t legally have to pay. Back in August, lawyers for DeSantis offered the first hint that his actions against Disney may have been more bark than bite, claiming that the dismantling of the Reedy Creek Improvement District may not move forward.

The most significant part of the FT report is of talks to allow DeSantis to add two members to the Reedy Creek Improvement District board. While this isn’t the total control that DeSantis wanted, this may be the type of compromise that Disney has been working on since May to help DeSantis “save face” and claim a victory over “woke culture”.

    1. And this doesn’t smell like Disney putting out PR to make themselves look better? The man won all but 5 counties in the election. He has no reason whatsoever to compromise with Disney. This doesn’t even pass the smell test. The fact that outlets like this are pushing this so hard is embarrassing
