A 1983 classic has arrived at the 1971 classic as the seasonal Mickey’s Christmas Carol windows have returned to Main Street USA at Magic Kingdom. The windows replace the typical window displays on the south end of The Emporium. The Walt Disney World holiday season will officially run through December 31st, but a few offerings will be available into the first week of January as well.

Guests can find 6 different vignettes telling the story of Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983), the Academy Award®-nominated featurette based on the classic tale A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. We made it out to Magic Kingdom this morning on a mercifully overcast day for some photos of the display!

The first scene depicts the moment when Scrooge’s nephew Fred (played by Donald Duck) invites his uncle Ebenezer Scrooge (played by namesake Scrooge McDuck) to Christmas dinner, as the hardworking Bob Cratchit (played by Mickey Mouse) looks on.

Nephew Fred: “Merry Christmas Bob Cratchit! Merry Christmas Uncle Scrooge…”
Scrooge: “What’s so merry about it? I’ll tell you what Christmas is – it’s just another workday, and any jackanapes who thinks else should be boiled in his own pudding!”
Nephew Fred: “I don’t care – I say Merry Christmas anyway.”

After refusing his nephew’s invitation, Scrooge retires to his home on Christmas Eve, when the ghost of his deceased business partner, Marley (played by Goofy), haunts our protagonist in a way only Goofy can. Marley warns of three spirits who will visit Scrooge that evening…

Marley’s Ghost: “…and so as punishment, I’m forced to carry these heavy chains through eternity! Maybe even longer! I’m doomed! Doomed!…and the same thing will happy to you EBENEZER SCROOGE!”

…The first of them – the Ghost of Christmas Past (played by Jiminy Cricket)—takes Scrooge back to the moment he broke the heart of his lovely Isabelle (played by Daisy Duck) by tending too much to his finances and too little to her.

Scrooge: “Why it’s Fezziwig’s!…I couldn’t have worked for a kinder man!…and there’s all my dearest friends…there…there’s lovely Isabel! And that’s me!”
Ghost of Christmas Past: “Yes, Scrooge, that was before you became a miserable miser consumed by greed.”

Next, the Ghost of Christmas Present (played by Willie the Giant from Mickey and the Beanstalk) visits Scrooge with his array of appetizing food, which contrasts strikingly with the modest dinner inside the Cratchit home.

Scrooge: “Please, please, don’t eat me!”
Ghost of Christmas Present: “Why would the GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT (that’s me) want to eat a distasteful little miser like you, especially when there are so many good things in life like this…the food of generosity…which you have denied your fellow man>”

Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Future (played by Pete) turns up the heat, showing Scoorge his fate, should he not change his ways.

Ghost of Christmas Future: “This is your FUTURE Ebenezer…the richest man in the cemetery! HA! HA! HA!”
Scrooge: “Spirit…ah…ah…I’ll change my ways! P…P-L-E-A-S-E…I’ll change!”

Learning his lesson, Scrooge brings gifts to the Cratchit family on Christmas morning, sharing hope and joy to a most appreciative Tiny Tim.

On Christmas Day Scrooge makes a surprise visit to the home of his faithful employee, Bob Cratchit, with gifts for all.
Scrooge: “Merry Christmas, Tiny Tim!”
Tiny Tim: “And God bless us, everyone!”
