A patent filed by Disney Enterprises seems to suggest that the company is working on creating a magical, floating pram similar to what was seen in the shot below from season one, episode one of The Mandalorian. The patent, as is typical with patents, doesn’t describe a singular implementation of the drone system that would be required to create the effect, but the patent images are strikingly similar to the hovering pram from the Star Wars universe.
The patent is for any drone-based implementation where there is a themed element or additional airframe around a volitant body. Disney says that they want to utilize racing-style drones that are quite powerful to create a magical, floating effect. Here’s a look at one of the images from the patent.
Currently, The Mandalorian and Grogu meet in the theme parks with The Mandalorian carrying Grogu in a sling. If Disney is able to leverage this patent into a functioning hovering pram, perhaps Disney could achieve an effect similar to what is seen in the Disney+ series. Of course, there are questions of the sound level of the drones and the finishing touches to create a believable effect, but if anyone is up to the task, we’re betting on Walt Disney Imagineering.
