According to the Walt Disney World website, the Liberty Square Riverboat will be closed for a few days this week. The closure is not listed as a refurbishment at this time, although that is subject to change. The website lists the closure as being August 20th through August 22nd, reopening to guests on August 23rd.
Liberty Square Riverboat Closure
The closure of the Riverboat likely has nothing to do with the recently announced Frontierland expansion project. Instead, maintenance is likely necessary to keep the Riverboat functional for the next few months before its likely closure in 2025.
Disney World has already filed early permits for the Frontierland expansion and Villains Land projects, creating construction zones near the Rivers of America for a draining next year. Disney has not given a date for the closure of the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island yet, but says that construction of a Cars-themed expansion to Frontierland will “rev into high gear” in 2025.
In the meantime, it’s business as usual for this corner of Magic Kingdom, with recent additions such as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and the Country Bear Musical Jamboree giving guests a reason to travel to the Frontier before it becomes a construction zone.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it closed permanently. Why refurbish only to close it forever in 2025?
Ahhh the classic 20k Leagues maneuver
What a waste of money to fix something that they are going to take out sometime next year I would save that money for a new dragon ride for Villains land.
Why take out the old to put in the new build another land ruining everything Disney started i believe it’s called Disney world not iger world
