Permit Reveals First Look at Construction Related to Frontierland Expansion & Villains Land at Magic Kingdom

    Published:

Hours after announcing that they would be filing permits this week, Disney has filed the first permits related to the Frontierland expansion that will bring two Cars-themed attractions to Magic Kingdom, and Villains Land. The Cars-themed area will replace Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America. Villains Land is expected to be located further north.

Here’s a look at a recently compiled topographical map of the area. There are low-lying areas to the north and west of the Rivers of America site, requiring water management efforts when constructing usable laydown yards.

As expected, the permits filed today relate to water management and construction laydown yards. There will be three laydown yards, two located west of Magic Kingdom guest areas, and one laydown yard that should be visible from within Magic Kingdom along the northwestern banks of the Rivers of America. Here are a few different screenshots that all pretty much amount to the same thing – out-of-park water management efforts and laydown yards for construction vehicle staging, earth moving, and more.

There will likely be more permits filed as work progresses this year and into next year. Disney says that guests will see construction kick into “high gear” next year, with work in the early portion of 2025 set to kick off a mutli-year expansion of Frontierland and the creation of Villains Land.

    1. Totally unnecessary destruction of the most themed and relaxing part of the parks. The land they will be staging on, could be used for actual expansion. That is not swampland, and even the parts that are, would be easier to fill then Rivers of America.

Tomorrowland Speedway is actually slightly larger than the area shown for the Cars area in Frontierland. Who is in charge of this unimaginative decision? The current Tomorrowland Speedway is LARGER than the Rivers of America area shown to be used for cars. They are actually going to destroy the most themed and magical part of the park, and leave the Speedway eyesore? Placing Cars, between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland (across from Seven Dwarfs Mine Train), and Circus area, would be a much better fit.

It would provide a perfect transition. Even in the future, there will be places like the Cars area. The Cars area could feature older cars, as well as some more futuristic cars, which could even been the basis for a new Cars movie.
