Permits Will Be Filed This Week for Frontierland Expansion at Magic Kingdom

According to Walt Disney World, permits will be filed this week to begin early work on expanding Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. The expansion will result in the removal of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America. Disney says that guests will have plenty of time to enjoy both offerings one last time, but that they are ready to move forward with the project that will bring two new Cars-themed attractions to Magic Kindom. Here’s the announcement of the work:

On Aug. 12, 2024, Disney reveals a first look at a newly announced reimagined area of Frontierland at Magic Kingdom Park that will be home to two new “Cars”-themed attractions taking guests into the wilderness beyond Radiator Springs. The new area will be part of the largest expansion of Magic Kingdom, which officially begins as permits are filed this week to start moving ground.
