Walt Disney World Celebrates 5 Years of the Disney Skyliner With Fun Facts (More Than 1 Million Miles Traveled!)

Last weekend, the Disney Skyliner celebrated 5 years of service at Walt Disney World. The gondola system connects EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and four resort hotels in the area. The Disney Skyliner debuted on September 29, 2019 as part of Disney World’s continuous efforts to improve transportation around property. The Disney Skyliner takes travel to new heights, and Disney World celebrated the milestone by releasing some fun facts about the transportation service!

Disney Skyliner Fun Facts

  • Millions of guests have traveled more than 1 million miles since the launch of the Disney Skyliner
  • The aerial route covers nearly three miles with 50 towers and five guest-loading stations.
  • There are more than 300 gondolas along the route, and more than 150 themed cabins feature iconic Disney Characters and figures from more than 20 beloved attractions and films like “Encanto,” “Frozen,” “Coco,” “Monsters Inc.” and more.
  • Gondolas travel at a top speed of 12 miles per hour. The typical “fly time” between stations ranges from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the route.
  • The Disney Skyliner station at International Gateway at EPCOT is conveniently located next to or just a short stroll away from Disney’s BoardWalk entertainment district, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.
  • Disney Skyliner is one of the most popular experiences at Walt Disney World.

“Our guests love Disney Skyliner, and I’m so proud of all the cast members who welcome families every day to experience it,” said Mark Natter, vice president of Transportation Operations. “We’re moving guests with magic and making sure they have memories that last a lifetime.”

One fun fact that Walt Disney World didn’t mention (but that I will), is that the EPCOT station was almost located in the Germany Pavilion instead of International Gateway! There were eight routes under consideration, and one of the alternate versions of a route included taking the EPCOT station from International Gateway and moving it into the Germany Pavilion.
