Good afternoon from EPCOT, where we just got off the Disney Skyliner, grabbing photos of what appear to be roller coaster support columns. The columns, painted black, are sitting outdoors in a backstage area near EPCOT. Here’s a look, followed by some speculation on what they could be for!
Roller Coaster Support Columns Spotted Backstage Near EPCOT
As you can see in our photos below, there are a couple of dozen support columns, lined up in a backstage laydown yard south of EPCOT. From what we could see, there weren’t any roller coaster track pieces, only support columns at this time. Here’s a look at what we could see, followed by some speculation as to what project they could be for!
While it may not look like much, there are elements here that are very reminiscent of a Vekoma suspended family roller coaster. In terms of what has been announced by Walt Disney World that would fit that description, there is only one roller coaster that comes to mind: the Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster coming to Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Specifically, the “vampire teeth” elements seen below are indicative of a support seen on Vekoma’s suspended family coasters, such as the Freedom Flyer at Fun Spot America. This element seems to be used for lift or propulsion portions of the ride system.
With work progressing nicely over at the Monsters Inc. Land construction site, we would not be surprised in the slightest to see the highly anticipated Door Vault roller coaster take shape this Summer!
