This past weekend was the first Disney Jollywood Nights event of the 2024 Holiday Season, and we were in attendance to check out what’s new, what’s changed, and what’s returning this year. As you’ve probably heard by now, Disney Jollywood Nights had a rough debut last year during its first year as an event, but Disney is sticking with the concept and making some changes this year – including a reworked version of the Holidays in Hollywood variety-style show in the Theater of the Stars. The show keeps the bones of last year’s version, but reworked pacing aims to improve the 25-minute stage show. Let’s take a look!
Holidays in Hollywood Show at Disney Jollywood Nights
The Holidays in Hollywood show is back for its second year in a row at Disney Jollywood Nights. The show takes place in the Theater of the Stars, which hosts Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage during normal park hours. The show is presented multiple times per evening during the event, with showtimes available in the My Disney Experience app.
The show has been reworked this year, removing some of the elements that didn’t work as well last year, and giving us more time with The Muppets! Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy return, along with two hosts who sing and have some reduced dialog during the show.
Overall, the changes tighten the show a bit, and the additional dialog from The Muppets means additional laughs from the audience. Holidays in Hollywood remains highly recommended, and a must-do for fans of the Muppets considering there is nowhere else at Walt Disney World where you can encounter them live.
Holidays in Hollywood Show Changes at Jollywood Nights
Before we get to our photos and video from this year, we wanted to cover some of the most notable changes to the show when compared to last year.
- The “live studio audience” aspect of the show has been removed. There are no more “commercial breaks”, which cuts down on the time a little bit and makes the show flow a bit better
- Lightning improvements in the Theater of the Stars are utilized extremely well in the show
- Additional decor, including garland along the stage drapes
- Considerably less dialog from the hosts as a result of the cutting out the live studio audience bit
- Tiana only sings one song this year
- Some new dialog from The Muppets before Belle’s song
- Tiana and Belle are more involved in choreography for the finale number
