Walt Disney Imagineering Debuts First-Ever “Storytelling Window”, Behind-the-Scenes Look

    Published:

Walt Disney Imagineering has provided a behind-the-scenes look and information about their first-ever “Storytelling Window” concept, realized with the introduction of Ichabod Crane this summer at Magic Kingdom. As told by Imagineering Art Director Alex Caruthers, the idea for a Storytelling Window came about many years ago when he was on Main Street USA looking up at the second-story windows, wondering if Imagineers could infuse some life into the windows by adding characters.

Joe Knapp, manager of A/V engineering with Walt Disney Imagineering, said that WDI has tested a few different concepts and technologies over time. Ultimately, Imagineering landed on Ichabod Crane in a window in Liberty Square as a way to enhance the space, but not completely take over the storyline or the visuals in the area.

In the behind-the-scenes video below, hear from Imagineers who worked on the project, and how they pulled off the effect.

Located in Liberty Square on the second floor of the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe, this window showcases a delightful silhouette of Ichabod Crane as he munches on a turkey leg, sips tea, and reads a book.
