Disneyland Confirms Projection Effects Are Coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Disneyland has confirmed our November report that they will be adding projection effects to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Just over a week ago, we reported that Disneyland had filed permits for new projector installations, leading us to believe that projection mapping was coming to the Star Wars-themed land. In a press release announcing special events for the upcoming year, Disneyland confirmed that “new projection effects” were coming to the “Fire of the Rising Moons” fireworks show visible from within Galaxy’s Edge.

Projection Effects for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Season of the Force at Disneyland Park (March 28-May 11): “Fire of the Rising Moons” will perform nightly at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with epic, new projection effects and galactic music – enhanced with fireworks on select nights. Plus, Hyperspace Mountain will return to Tomorrowland, where you can hurtle through the galaxy and encounter TIE fighters along the way!

As you may know, “Fire of the Rising Moons” is a sort of 2-for-1 show. When Disneyland presents its nightly fireworks, Galaxy’s Edge has started to pipe in Star Wars-themed music to allow for a proper secondary viewing area from within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. As it turns out, the fireworks show is nicely positioned over the Millennium Falcon, making for a wonderful spot to view from.

Disneyland has also rolled out a fireworks package for the nearby Docking Bay 7 restaurant, offering dedicated viewing for the show. However, some nights there are no fireworks, either due to the fact that Disneyland doesn’t show fireworks 365 days per year, or due to winds at higher elevations. Enter: projection effects.

Projection effects will allow for the show to go on, and presumably, viewing packages to continue to be sold.

There are no announced plans to have any sort of projection mapping or nightly show within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at this time. We’d love to see a drone show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that leverages viewing areas from in front of the Chinese Theater and within Galaxy’s Edge, but perhaps that is a battle for another day.

Walt Disney World will be without a nighttime drone show again in a couple of days, but where could drones show up in 2025?
